Refinex, formerly Energy Oil Oleochemicals, was founded in 1983 and is one of the largest privately owned petrochemical companies in Southern Africa.
Our CEO, Theo Heerman, began by selling oil to mines and manufacturers in the West Rand. This grew to include the supply of vegetable oils into the oleochemicals, feed and pet food market, as well as refining base oils to be used in the paint industry.
After investing in additional plants and improving our processing facilities, Refinex was able to handle a more diverse range of products including petrochemical waste streams and this allowed us access to new markets. Refinex and SA Tank Terminals have both grown from these investments
Our partner company, SA Tank Terminals, was acquired in 2011 and is a bulk liquid fuel storage terminal with 13 million litres of storage and is located 8km’s away in Roodekop, Germiston. The acquisition of SA Tank Terminals allowed Refinex to increase production, storage and blending capabilities.
Bulk Liquid Storage
SA Tank Terminals provides a bulk liquid storage service to customers, ensuring that customers have an easily accessible supply of products.
This terminal, located in Roodekop Germiston, provides an in-house storage and handling service to our own companies, Refinex and our transport division, as well as to external customers requiring the various services offered by the terminal.
SA Tank Terminals has 13 million litres of storage capacity allocated to various customers. Product is moved by road into and out of the terminal, via calibrated weighbridges located at 2 entrances. A rail siding feeds into the site which could allow for the future distribution of products by rail.
